2024 MLB Draft Preview Part 2
Yesterday, I talked about the draft in general terms. Today, I want to briefly go over the Blue Jays’ recent strategy under this front office, as well as highlighting some of the players they’ve been linked to in mock drafts. Since they’re picking at 20, this is a pretty general exercise. There are probably 30 players who could both reasonably be there at their pick and who wouldn’t be a shock to see selected, so we’re necessarily casting a wide net here.
Kiermaier Placed on Waivers
According to <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/07/11/sports/blue-jays-put-kevin-kiermaier-on-revocable-waivers-in-telling-sign/">Joel Sherman of the New York Post</a>, the Jays have placed Kevin Kiermaier on waivers. The move gives any of the other 29 teams the opportunity to claim Kiermaier and assume the roughly $4.5m remaining on his contract.

The MLB draft is once again upon us, beginning on Sunday evening and continuing through Monday and Tuesday. There are some new wrinkles this year, but unfortunately none that really help the Jays. Today, I’ve outlined the draft process and schedule and provided some high level notes on the class, tomorrow I’ll review the Jays’ recent draft strategy and some of the names they’ve been publicly linked to.
Clement Leads Jays to 10-6 Win
This one started ugly but turned around in a very satisfying manner. Chris Bassitt battled through a rough outing to give the team five desperately needed innings, and the offence shook off a start to turn it into a rout in the middle innings.
